The Doorbell Rang is a children’s book written and illustrated by Pat Hutchins. The story follows a group of children who eagerly anticipate eating freshly baked cookies, only to have their excitement turn to disappointment when more and more guests arrive, causing the cookies to be divided into smaller and smaller portions.
This book provides an excellent opportunity to introduce the concept of division to young learners in a fun and engaging way. Reading the book aloud and discussing the math concepts involved can help students understand the idea of dividing a set of objects into equal parts, and how the size of the group affects the size of the portions. Teachers can also create activities based on the book, such as having students act out the story with manipulatives or creating their own cookie division problems to solve. Overall, The Doorbell Rang is a valuable resource for incorporating math concepts into reading lessons.
Children understand math concepts when seen through the eyes of a storyteller. They learn quick concepts while reading and don’t even realize they are ! Have fun illustrating division with the story The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins.
