When I was teaching my boys to read I wanted them to enjoy reading. This was difficult when many of the books and stories featured so many sight words. They were easily discouraged by this, and so I set out to find more books with CVC words, and few sight words. This was almost impossible!
As they say, necessity is the mother of invention, so I created this Preschool and Kindergarten Mega Bundle, so you will not be left in the dark as I was.
When teaching your child to read focus first on letter recognition, then letter sounds, and then CVC words. CVC words are consonant, vowel, consonant words. Words such as CAT, MAT, BAT, SUN, BUN, RUN…are all examples of CVC words. Once your child has mastered their letter sounds, they should move on to CVC words.
SIGHT WORDS SHOULD NOT BE THE FOCUS WHEN BEGINNING TO TEACH YOUR CHILD TO READ.
Sight words do not follow a predictable pattern like CVC words do. Therefore, sight words are used very lightly in this bundle, and are not the main focus.
