Native American and Indigenous people refer to the diverse groups of people who were the original inhabitants of the Americas before European colonization. There were hundreds of distinct indigenous cultures in North, Central, and South America, each with their own unique languages, customs, beliefs, and ways of life.

The indigenous people have a rich history and culture that predates the arrival of Europeans in the Americas. They were skilled hunters, farmers, and traders who had developed sophisticated societies and artistic traditions. However, the arrival of Europeans brought about significant changes to their way of life, including forced assimilation, displacement from their land, and the spread of diseases that decimated their populations.

Today, many indigenous people continue to struggle for recognition of their sovereignty, land rights, and cultural preservation. They have contributed greatly to the diverse cultural landscape of the Americas and continue to be an important part of the region’s history and identity.

How did Native Americans live long ago? Indigenous Peoples refers to a group of Indigenous peoples with a shared national identity, such as “Navajo” or “Sami,” and is the equivalent of saying “the American people.” Native American and American Indian are terms used to refer to peoples living within what is now the United States prior to European contact. We should encourage children to learn about Native American and cultures of Indigenous People by studying them right from the source using local museums and learning about the variety of lifestyles these cultures are proud of.
