Main Idea Unit: Teaching Main Idea (RI 3.2) Activities and Lessons

In this two week unit, you will teach or review main idea with your students. Two weeks of lesson plan ideas, a main idea and key details poster, a graphic organizer to practice using whole class passages or students’ independent reading books, a fun group activity to introduce main idea, and reading passages to practice finding the main idea and key details of the passage.

 

A few additional materials needed are:

-Box of brownie mix

-large mixing bowl

-egg

-beater from a hand mixer or large spoon

-measuring cup

-brown paper bags

-permanent marker

-masking tape

 

Any activities that require advanced preparation by you are colored in red on the lesson plan charts.
