Leo the Late Bloomer is a children’s book written by Robert Kraus and illustrated by Jose Aruego. The book follows Leo, a young tiger who is not developing at the same rate as his animal friends. While his friends are reading, writing, and eating neatly, Leo is still struggling to speak or write his name.Leo’s worried father tries to push him to develop faster, but Leo simply can’t seem to do it. His mother reassures him that he will bloom in his own time, but Leo becomes more frustrated as the seasons pass. However, in the end, Leo does bloom, and his father is proud of him for doing so on his own timeline.
The book is often used to teach children about the importance of patience and self-acceptance. It can also be used to discuss themes such as development, individual differences, and the impact of parental pressure on children.
This unit includes comprehension, writing and activities to be used for Leo the Late Bloomer by Robert Kraus. This is heartwarming story of how a little tiger named Leo bloomed. Leo isn’t reading, or writing, or drawing, or even speaking, and his father is concerned. But Leo’s mother isn’t.
This unit includes a video read-aloud activity for students while listening, comprehension questions, and writing activities. The guide focuses on what is a late bloomer and how we can relate to being a late bloomer at something.
This is an all-inclusive packet which can be used for class instruction as well as guided reading and writing groups.
