We all love our pets! Now we can love the new story “The Pet”. This simple CVC ET Word Family Worksheets, and easy reader is ready for download! Being able to build words by means of CVC word patterns is crucial to early reading development. When I was teaching my boys to read, I found it was difficult to find stories that had few sight words, and that wouldn’t overwhelm them with words they didn’t know. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention, so I created these preschool and kindergarten worksheets for you! Any time you are reading with your child, it is important to model good reading. Emphasize punctuation and discuss the pictures. Talk to your child about the story. In what ways can they relate to it? Do they have a pet? If so, how is their pet similar or different from the pet in the story?
What is Included in the ET Word Family Worksheets?
- 6 worksheets for your child to build CVC words in the ET word family
- 1 decodable reader “The Pet” (double sided printing allows you to create 4 “pages”)
Any time you are reading with your child follow these steps to help them learn to read:
- Day 1-Read the story to them
- Day 2-Read the word, and then they repeat the same word
- Day 3-Read the words together at the same time
- Day 4-Allow the child to try out their new skills and read independently
Do not get discouraged if your child cannot read the story independently. As long as it’s level appropriate, they may just need more time. Laminate the worksheets to get the most use out of them. We use letter tiles, alphabet magnets, or EXPO markers to keep things interesting. Try working with one worksheet a day before moving on to the decodable reader. I hope you enjoy these ET word family worksheets as much as I enjoyed creating them!
