Are you looking for a fun, back to school ELA activity? Here is a set of engaging task cards for your upper elementary or middle school learners. Aligned with English/Language Arts (ELA) standards, these 20 school-themed cards will have your learners focusing on FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE. Concepts presented in this product include alliteration, hyperbole, idioms, metaphors, similes, oxymoron, onomatopoeia, and personification. Learners will read real-life scenarios about school, as well as two choices to help them identify what type of figurative language is used in the sentences. After choosing the best answer, they use the included recording page to write their answer. These task cards are versatile in that you can use them indoors or outdoors. They can also be used with individuals, small groups, or large groups. Laminate the cards for year after year use. Along with the task cards, an answer recording page is included. Two recording sheets can be found on the page. This will reduce the number of copies or amount of ink used in printing. Task cards and answer recording sheets are available in a color version and a black & white version. An answer key is also provided. PLEASE NOTE: the color version and black & white version are IDENTICAL.

I am an adoptive mom of 5 wonderful kiddos and I homeschooled 4 of them for several years. Prior to becoming a mom, I was a classroom aide in grades 1-3, a co-teacher in various pre-school classrooms (infants to age 3), and a lead teacher in Pre-K, as well as a before/after-school program leader. I have a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and graduate coursework in special education. It was during the years that I homeschooled my kids that I tried my hand at creating resources for them. We did so many "out of the box" activities and I struggled to find resources for them online. I began creating material that met their individual needs and tied into what they were learning. The rest, they say, is history.
