Choosing to homeschool middle school can be a great way to tailor your child’s education to their individual needs and interests. However, it can be challenging to keep things fun and engaging, especially for homeschool middle school students who may be easily bored.
Let’s face it… The cute-sy printables and fun games typically stop around 3rd grade — but I’m here to tell you that they don’t have to! As a homeschool mama who is constantly looking for ways to engage her homeschoolers, these middle and high school homeschool years are tough sometimes! šš½
I LOVE when I can find homeschool middle school printables and resources that make learning engaging, fun, and exciting again!
In this blog post, I’m going to share a few tips with you about how you can turn your homeschool middle school into an interactive and FUN learning experience for your kids, as well as share 10 of my favorite homeschool middle school printables with you!
Let’s jump in!
Creating a fun environment for learning in your homeschool middle school is crucial for the overall success of your child’s education.
Not only does it make learning more enjoyable, but it also helps to increase engagement and retention of information!
By incorporating games, hands-on activities, and other interactive methods, you can definitely make learning more interesting and effective for your middle schooler.
Additionally, a fun learning environment can foster a positive attitude towards education and help to instill a lifelong love of learning (which is what homeschooling is all about!)
So, if you want to ensure your child’s success in their homeschool middle school journey, make sure to prioritize creating a fun and engaging learning environment. š
Here are some tips for getting starts with making your homeschooling middle school a fun and engaging journey:
- Incorporate hands-on activities!
Homeschool middle school students thrive when they can get hands-on and apply what they’re learning. Look for ways to incorporate hands-on activities such as science experiments, art projects, or cooking lessons into your curriculum.
- Don’t be afraid of technology!
It’s no secret that middle school students are often tech-savvy, so look for ways to incorporate technology into their learning and you’ll be their favorite for LIFE. Use educational apps, online digital escape rooms, or virtual field trips to make learning more interactive and tech-friendly.
- Take breaks often!
Middle school students have shorter attention spans than adults, so it’s important to take šš½Ā frequent šš½Ā breaks šš½. Encourage your child to take a quick walk or stretch break to keep their energy up, especially during tough assignments.
- I can’t stand the socialization word – it feels like homeschoolers are put into a box sometimes based on what people assume about homeschooling. And do those people ever visit a public school? I guarantee that my homeschoolers get more social time than public school students. When our oldest was in public school (Elementary!) she would come home and tell us that they had silent lunch because of one kid’s behavior almost weekly! Recess was also taken away multiple times. So, how are they socializing? I digress.Intentionally provide opportunities for your homeschool middle school students to get social!Middle school is that awkward stage of life, let them be around others who are just as awkward so that they can thrive in their awkwardness together! An awkward club, if you will š¤But seriously, homeschool middle school students would enjoy co-working with their peers! Look for opportunities to incorporate group projects or virtual study groups into your homeschooling curriculum.
- Don’t forget about field trips!Again, our older kiddos get the short end of the stick sometimes! Field trips are SUCH a great way to incorporate FUN learning into your homeschool middle school! You will NEVER be too old to go on a field trip!
Look for opportunities to take your child on field trips to museums, historical sites, or other educational destinations. Field trips with older students are so much fun!
